Collection: Don Chase

Born in Port Hope, Ontario, in 1938 to Ojibway parents, Don has developed a distinctive artistic style inspired by his Indigenous heritage and his passion for bold visual expression. Known for his use of vibrant fluorescent colours and dynamic compositions, his artwork creates an immersive experience that captures both emotion and energy.

Don studied at the Ontario College of Art and spent much of his professional career working as a graphic artist. Outside of his career and his dedication to coaching hockey, he devoted countless hours to exploring creative expression through painting, sculpture, and mixed media.

Throughout his artistic career, Don's work has been exhibited in galleries and art shows across Canada, including the renowned McMichael Canadian Art Collection. His accomplishments have earned him numerous awards and accolades, including the Mayor's Choice Award at the 43rd Juried Art Exhibition at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery in Oshawa in 2011.

At the heart of Don's work is a desire to create a meaningful connection with the viewer. Reflecting on his artistic vision, he explains, “I try to create a spiritual connection with the person viewing my work. It’s not necessarily a religious thing, but I want to interpret my innermost emotions that live inside all of us. I’m compelled to express how I feel and present it in a bold manner.”

Don's artwork serves as a bridge between traditional teachings and contemporary expression.  His artwork invites viewers to explore their own experiences while connecting with the universal feelings that unite us all.
